These cookies must have been good, because my colleagues ate them all up last day when I took them to work for a morning snack. The kids also found them delicious, and in the afternoon we tried to decorate them with royal icing. The result wasn’t so good, I still have to improve the texture of the royal icing and the trace with the piping bag, but it was fun, and it turned out quite well.

200 g mantega sense sal, a temperatura ambient
200 g sucre blanc fi
1 ou
400 g farina

sabors opcionals:

Recipe for the butter cookies (for 25 medium-sized cookies):
200 g unsalted butter, room temperature
200 g caster sugar
1 egg
400 g flour

Optional flavors:
Vanilla cookies: add vanilla extract
Lemon cookies: add grated lemon zest
Orange cookies: add grated orange zest
Chocolate cookies: replace 50 g of the flour with 50 g of cocoa powder.

In a bowl, cream the butter with the sugar and the chosen flavoring with the aid of an electric mixer, until obtaining a creamy mixture. Don’t overwork, or the cookies will spread in the oven.
Mix in the beaten egg and then add the flour using the mixer at low speed, until forming dough.
Make a ball with this dough and wrap it in film. Let it cool in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Place the dough on a floured surface and knead briefly. Roll out using a rolling pin until having a two ½ inch (5 mm) thickness.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out the shapes of your choice. Lay the cookies on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper.
Bake for 8-12 minutes at 180 ºC, or until golden at the edges.
Let cool on a wire rack. Once the cookies are cold, they can be decorated with white royal icing, or with colored one using food color, you’ll see it’s so much fun, and the result is very surprising.
You can see the results of the kids’ decorations on top and also below, it's nice, isn’t it?
